Industrial action to escalate from next Friday (51/11)

23 September 2011

Police Association members have voted resoundingly to escalate their protected industrial action in support of a fair and reasonable pay rise.

Following today’s close of the ballot, the Australian Electoral Commission has declared a 99 per cent plus ‘Yes’ vote, paving the way for members to step-up their protected action.

Under federal industrial laws, The Police Association must provide three business days’ notice to the Victoria Police Force of our intention to commence stepping up our protected industrial action.

For this reason, it is intended that phase-two bans will start at 0700 hours on Friday 30 September 2011.

The phase-two set of protected bans to be implemented in conjunction with the existing bans are as follows;

  • Ban on all forms of penalty notices including those generated by the Traffic Camera Office
  • Ban on performing duties alone other than in circumstances where such duties are customarily performed one-up
  • Ban on unpaid overtime
  • Ban on the execution of money warrants unless other operational considerations exist

Members have also endorsed a police march to Parliament House which will be scheduled for an appropriate time.

Prior to commencing the additional bans we will provide members with information to explain their scope and application.  As with the existing bans, no member should fear any adverse consequences for participating in phase-two bans as they are legally protected industrial actions.
